Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School Program provides free resources and support for teaching and studying American history.

Gilder Lehrman Affiliate Schools will receive:

  • Preferential consideration to highly competitive Teacher Seminars
  • Free classroom materials three times a year and a discount on all Gilder Lehrman resources including posters and books
  • Preferential booking of museum quality traveling panel exhibitions on major historical topics
  • Invitations to forums and conferences featuring leading historians
  • Opportunities for students to participate in national history competitions
  • New Website Launching Spring 2012 – Featuring Exclusive Online Content for Affiliate Schools
    A new comprehensive website of American history, www.gilderlehrman.org, features history by era with primary source documents and interdisciplinary teaching tools with an emphasis on literacy. Content is searchable by topic, theme, grade level, and Common Core Standards. Members of Affiliate Schools will have access to exclusive lesson plans, teachable documents, videos, podcasts, toolkits, and an online community for sharing.

Teachers and principals are encouraged to apply using the form available online. Applications from all schoolsK-12, urban, rural, public, parochial, and independent, are welcome. Upon enrollment, Gilder Lehrman resources and programs are immediately available to every teacher.
